New Belgium's latest seasonal

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know about a new beer on the scene for Nashville. Check your local hangs for New Belgium Hoptober on draft or in bottle. It is New Belgium's fall seasonal. Many breweries make Oktoberfest beers to celebrate Oktoberfest (held in late September into early October), but New Belgium decided to release a Golden Ale. A very hoppy one at that! The beer bursts with nice citrusy hops and kinda reminds me of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It just has similar hoppiness and mouthfeel. Almost into IPA territory! If you are a fan of hops and want to try something new, definately check this one out. It tasty!

Latest Music Purchases

Since I haven't blogged about music much, i figured I would list some of the things i am listening to now.  Just went to Grimey's on Tuesday and purchased: Stardeath and White Dwarfs- The Birth, Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest, Tortoise - Beacons of Ancestorship, and St. Vincent - Actor.  Also found an original copy of Plastic Ono Band on vinyl!  Been looking for that for a while.  Haven't had a chance to listen to a lot of the newer purchases, but so far they seem to be pretty cool.  Going out of town for the weekend.  Holla!

Lazy Magnolia Brewing Co. coming to Tennessee!

Apparently, Lazy Magnolia beer is coming soon.  Be on the lookout.  They have some pretty good beers.  Being a Mississippi native, I am pretty excited.  Their Southern Pecan Brown Ale is pretty interesting.  They also have a sweet potato cream stout that's brewed with sweet potatoes.  Haven't tried it though.  Not sure what all beers are coming, but am proud that Mississippi has a brewery and proud that it's coming to Tennessee!  Check it.

Sierra Nevada Kellerweis now in stores!

Just noticed Sierra Nevada's Kellerweiss yesterday at the 14th street market in Nashville off the corner of Woodland and 14th. If you haven't been there, they have a great selection of beer. Anyway, picked up a sixer of this and tried it out.

-Pours a hazy/cloudy golden color. The haze is due to the suspended yeast.

-The flavor, as it says on the label, is crisp, banana-y, and clove-like.

I am proud to see a hefeweizen added to the Sierra Nevada line. Of course, they have the wheat ale too which is pretty good. According to the Sierra Nevada website, this will be one of their year-round offerings. Also, be on the lookout for any Victory Brewing Company beers. According to http://nashvillebeergeek.blogspot.com/ Victory will start distributing their beers around Nashville around June 15th. Apparently, they are going to start with the Hop Devil IPA, their Prima Pils (their Pilsner), and Golden Monkey (a belgian tripel style ale). Exciting to see Tennessee getting new beers!

Bell's Consecrator Doppelbock

Latest tasting is the Consecrator Doppelbock by Bell's brewery in Comstock, MI.  If you can get your hands on any Bell's beer definitely try to grab some.  They are consistently good.  I picked this 6-pack up at Roof Brothers in Paducah, KY, along with Bell's Oberon and a growler of Bell's Hopslam.  We can't get Bell's beer in Tennessee.  Doppelbocks are commonly brewed for the spring season and Bell's offers this from March to November.  I've wanted to try this one for a little while.  I have been into Doppelbocks lately and once I saw that Bell's had one, I've been curious.

(poured into a snifter)

Color:  sunburst (from gold to brown), clear.

Smell:  Had a Belgian, banana-y, chocolat-y, malty smell.

Taste:  Smooth, definitely has the malty backdrop.  Light to medium body.  There is a mild hop taste present.  Creamy.  Chocolat-y.  Mild carbonation.  No head.  Not much lacing. For 8% alcohol content, you definitely don't taste the alcohol.  It is definitely drinkable and smooth.

Overall:  It is pretty good.  I will definitely drink more, but it wasn't as incredible as I expected.

Rating: A-
